Privacy Policy — Alfazaa
Security and Safety Association, Riyadh Region · effective 2026-10-02
Alfazaa (الفزعة) is a roadside-assistance platform operated by the Security and Safety Association in Riyadh Region. A stranded motorist files a request, and an approved volunteer rescuer reaches them. The service is voluntary and entirely free: there is no payment, no advertising, and no sale of any data.
This policy describes what the application actually collects, who can see it, who carries it on the Association's behalf, and how long it is kept. The application collects nothing beyond what is listed here. Data is processed under the Saudi Personal Data Protection Law. Use of the application is also governed by the Terms of Use.
1. What we collect and why
Phone number and sign-in code
Your phone number is your only identity on the platform; there are no passwords. At sign-in we send a four-digit code to your number through an SMS provider licensed in Saudi Arabia. The code is stored as a keyed digest, never as digits, and expires after five minutes. No record of you is created until you complete sign-in with the code.
Name and profile photograph
Both are optional and set only by you, from the account screen. If an Association supervisor writes down a name they heard from you on a call, it is kept as a display name only and never overwrites what you entered. Capture metadata (such as the location a photo was taken at) is removed from your profile photograph before it is served, and the photograph is shown only to you and to the Association's supervisors — never to any other user.
Device and session
At sign-in the application registers an identifier it generates itself (not the hardware device identifier), the operating system and its version, the application version, and a push-notification address if you allow notifications. The session record keeps the network address and client-software identification of the sign-in. A session ends after fourteen days of inactivity.
A request for help
When you ask for help we collect: your position (from the device's location if you permit it, from a map link you paste, or from a pin you drag on the map), the fault type from a closed catalogue, an optional description, the vehicle description you type, the hazards you tick, and any photographs you attach. Capture metadata is removed from the served copy of each photograph; the capture position of a fault photograph is kept as unverified evidence about the roadside. Every request carries a short reference number and a record of its states.
Once a rescuer accepts your request, and while the application is open in front of you, your device's position is sent about every twenty seconds so the assigned rescuer can see where you are now if you have walked away from the vehicle. It pauses while the application is in the background, ends with the rescue, and is seen by that rescuer alone.
Volunteer rescuers
Someone applying to volunteer chooses their vehicle (make, model and colour from a closed catalogue), its plate number, and the services they can provide. No coverage area or home location is asked for. Once approved by the Association:
- One position fix is taken when the application is opened or brought to the foreground, so that notifications reach the nearest rescuers. There is no tracking between rescues.
- Only while a rescue is assigned to them, their position is reported continuously — about every ten seconds on the way and every thirty seconds after arrival, continuing in the background until the rescue ends — and is streamed live to the beneficiary of that one request and to nobody else, stopping the moment the rescue ends.
- The device's motion sensor is used on the device itself to save battery by reducing reporting while stationary; motion data is never sent to the platform.
- No trajectory is stored: the platform keeps only the latest position, replaced on every update. One figure, the journey distance driven, is kept on the request.
Conversations with the Association
If you message the Association's WhatsApp number, the messages and media you send or receive in that conversation are kept, and the Association's supervisors read them to answer you.
Ratings
After a rescue the beneficiary may rate the rescuer (an overall score and three dimensions: punctuality, competence, conduct) with an optional comment. The free-text comment never reaches the rescuer; averages are shown to the Association, and to the rescuer only above a recorded disclosure floor.
2. Who can see your data
- Before any rescuer accepts: approved rescuers see the incident's position, district, distance, fault type, waiting time and hazard list. They do not see your name, number, description, vehicle or photographs.
- After a rescuer accepts, for the duration of that rescue only: the assigned rescuer sees your name, phone number, position, description, vehicle and request photographs, in order to reach you and recognise the scene.
- The rescuer, about you, during the rescue: your live position while the application is open in front of you, as above.
- Ended cases: a rescuer's history of ended rescues shows only the reference number, fault type and city — never your name, number or position. Your own history of ended requests shows nothing about the rescuer.
- You, about the rescuer: their first name, vehicle description and plate, distance and estimated arrival, and their live position for the duration of the rescue. You do not see their phone number or photograph.
- Association supervisors: through the console they access the full records — people, requests, rescues and ratings — to run the service and intervene when needed. Every supervisor intervention is written to an immutable audit log.
3. Who processes data on the Association's behalf
- SMS: a licensed Saudi provider (Corbit / المدار) carries the sign-in code to your number, and nothing else.
- Push notifications: Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging, and the Apple Push Notification service on iOS. A notification carries a short status text, the fault type and identifiers — no position, name or number.
- Maps and distances: Google Maps Platform. The map inside the application draws its tiles from Google directly; the platform's servers query road distance, travel time, city and district names with coordinates only, and the position behind a map link you paste, with no personal data.
- WhatsApp conversations: Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform carries messages between you and the Association if you write to it there.
- Photograph storage: Cloudflare R2, reached through short-lived signed addresses.
- Hosting: Railway, running the platform's servers and database on the Association's behalf, with Cloudflare in front of the console site.
The application contains no analytics, tracking or advertising SDK, and your data is never sold or shared for any commercial purpose.
4. Permissions the application asks for
- Location (while in use): to place your request, to reach the nearest rescuers with notifications, and to report a rescuer's position during a rescue. It can be refused; a request can then be filed from a pasted map link.
- Motion & Fitness (iOS) / Activity recognition (Android): rescuers only, to reduce battery use during a rescue. Processed on the device and never sent.
- Notifications: to alert a rescuer to a new request and to tell a beneficiary how their rescue is progressing.
- Camera and photos: only when you choose a profile photograph or attach a photograph to a request.
Every permission is managed from the operating system's settings; the application reads its state and never stores it.
5. Retention
- Sign-in codes: five minutes, then void.
- Sessions: end after fourteen days of inactivity, and can be ended at any time by signing out.
- Rescuer positions: the latest only; no history is kept.
- Photographs: each original is deleted once its served copy, stripped of capture metadata, is made; profile photograph files are deleted when removed, replaced, or when the account is deleted.
- Account deletion: you request it yourself from the account screen. On the request you are signed out of every device at once and, if you are a rescuer, taken off duty. Seven days later your personal data — name, phone number, profile photograph, devices, volunteer standing and vehicle — is erased, unless you sign in again within those seven days, which restores the account as it was. After erasure the record of requests, rescues and audit entries is kept, anonymised so it no longer points to you, for safety and accountability. A deletion request is refused while you have a live request or a rescue in progress.
- Records of requests, rescues and audit entries: retained by the Association as part of its operational record; not deleted automatically.
6. Your rights and choices
- Sign out, and manage permissions from the system settings.
- See your data, requests and rescues in the application; correct or remove your name and photograph from the account screen.
- Request deletion of your account yourself from the account screen, with seven days to change your mind, as described above.
- For any other request about your data, write to the Association at privacy@alfazaa.org.
7. Security
All data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Sensitive credentials are encrypted at the application level on top of database encryption, and codes and secrets are stored as digests rather than plain text. Administrative access is limited to the Association's supervisors and fully logged.
8. Children
The service is intended for adult motorists and volunteers and is not directed at children under thirteen.
9. Changes
When what the application collects or who can see it changes, this page is updated at the same time and the effective date above moves with it.
